A German Crusaders song: The Palästinalied (Palestine Song) was written by Walther von der Vogelweide (c. 1170-c.1230), the most celebrated of German medieval lyric poets. The full song consists of thirteen verses in Middle High German; it was composed in connection with the Fifth Crusade (1217-1221), and it is Walthers only song that preserves both its original text and its period melody. This version (one of the best weve heard) is presented in an authentic period arrangement by Arany Zoltán, a Hungarian multi-instrumentalist who specializes in folk music, medieval music and world music.
