A Good Confession Luke 12:8 Also I say to you, whoever - TopicsExpress

A Good Confession Luke 12:8 Also I say to you, whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God. 9 But he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God. Before we can make a confession, we have to have something to confess. In our time, we associate the word with an admission of guilt. Thats ironic, because in this case we are confessing that we have been found “not guilty.” Thats not all were acknowledging, of course. When Yeshua says that someone “confesses” Him, what does that involve? The first thing, of course, is that He is our Savior and Lord. Along with that, though, we are affirming ALL that He is, and the list is virtually endless: He is the Creator of all things, the Living Word, the Bread of Life, the Light of the world, the Good Shepherd, the Healer, the Hope of the hopeless, the Way, the Truth, the Life. He is our best Friend, our Master, our Teacher, our elder Brother, our Anchor in the storm, our firm Foundation., our great High Priest, the King of kings and Lord of Lords. All of this and more is encompassed in His name, and we live and pray and praise, and worship, and do everything in His name. Mere words do not constitute a confession, though. To be valid, a confession must be consistent with the facts. What we say on the outside must agree with the reality inside of us. Paul wrote that, to be saved, we must not only confess with our mouths that Yeshua is Lord, but believe in our hearts God has raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9). This isnt just a mental acknowledgment that the event occurred, though, but the acceptance of that same new life in us. If all that we say is true, then it much more than agreeing to a set of facts. Unless Yeshua is alive in us, unless the Holy Spirit resides in our hearts, any confession we make of Him is a false one. In the same way, denying Yeshua involves more than the words of our mouths. Yeshua has just spoken about the leaven, or impurity, of the Pharisees as hypocrisy (Luke 12:1). Denial consists not only of publicly denying that Yeshua is who He claims to be, but making a confession that He is, but denying it in the heart. Just as our lives will confirm our words that confess Yeshua as Lord, so they will disprove lying words that are not reflected in our hearts. The consequences are not just earthly, but eternal. Confessing us before the angels of God means that Yeshua acknowledges from the throne, where He is seated by the Father, that we belong to Him. Since a true confession reflects what is in our hearts, then when He affirms that we are His, He is also saying that we live in His heart. That is that mutual abiding to which He refers (John 15:7), and that unity with Him and the Father which is the goal of salvation (John 17:21). Thats what our good confession means, and thats what we will experience and grow into for all of eternity. Prayer: We confess and acknowledge, Daddy God, that Yeshua is our Savior and Lord, and that He is to us all that His name encompasses. We are Your children, Your possession, and the sheep of Your pasture because of Him. What we say with our mouths, we believe in our hearts, and we will affirm it for eternity. In Yeshuas name. Amen!
