A HANDY TIP FOR BUYING A LEATHER LOUNGE: * You may see terms such as Full leather to describe the upholstery. Most Leather lounges have what is referred to as split leather on all sections of the lounge apart from the seat, backrest, and the top of the armrest. Split leather is the 2nd or 3rd Layer of the hide and is always of a lower quality and strength to the Top grain leather. Its also not as soft as top grain leather and does not wear as well. Top grain simply means the top layer of the hide which is the strongest part. Seams are not as strong when sewing split leather to top grain leather. When you shop around, youll most often find that you wont be told any of this information. The general description offered by salespeople is its full leather which is technically correct, but unless they tell you Its full top grain leather all over, you can safely assume in most cases that most of the leather on the lounge is split leather. Now that you know this, the first question to ask is Is it top grain leather all over or is there split leather on the lounge, and where is the split leather? Dont be surprised if you cant get a straight or immediate answer because, unfortunately, many factories dont provide this info either, so the salesperson is often not aware....until you ask the question! The way to check is simply feel the leather on the seat, backrest and top of the armrest, then compare the feel to the other parts of the lounge. Youll know very quickly. Using split leather is just a way to reduce the cost of the lounge, but you have every right to know exactly what youre getting for your hard earned money. Next tip: BONDED LEATHER...STAY TUNED!
