A January swarm call and a visit to the Ag. Commissioners Office - TopicsExpress

A January swarm call and a visit to the Ag. Commissioners Office in SLO. When this woman called and said she had bees in a tree in her backyard, I couldnt get her to say there was a cluster of bees, so I was skeptical. I called her back and asked what kind of tree it was, and was it blooming. She didnt know what kind of tree it was, said it appeared dormant and leafless, and didnt appear to be blooming. Reluctantly, I responded. It was an alder tree and there was a frenzy of pollen foraging on the catkins. They apologized but I was totally forgiving and actually rather excited to see the foraging. I took the occasion to visit the Ag. Commissioners Office in SLO and filled out my first Apiary Registration form and ponied up my $10. Had a nice chat with the receptionist and talked with Apiary rep. James Moore over the phone. He is a beekeeper, is excited about our group and wants to come to our next meeting. I welcomed him and he sounded excited.
