A LESSON FOR SUNDAY. The firing by Mayor Ashton Hayward of the councils only employee, Dr. Lila Cox, can be likened to the Tower of Babel bible story, Councilman Gerald Wingate told fellow Pensacola council members during a special council meeting June 24. In that narration, the people were all working together to build this tower, and it was getting higher and higher - until God looked down and decided to stop this effort by confounding their language so they couldnt work together. I think Lila Cox must have been the foreman, Wingate said. And thats what this is. It is an attempt (by the mayor) to confound our language so that in the future we wont be able to work together as a group and accomplish the other things we might want to accomplish in the future.
