A LITTLE LESS LOVE AND A LITTLE MORE COMMON DECENCY: Here’s a wonderful essay written in 2005 by Minnesota-based writer Peter Schilling about the significance of Kurt Vonnegut to the relationship between Schilling and his father. “I’m glad, in his later years, that my Pop has someone like Kurt Vonnegut, a curmudgeon, a jokester, and a guy in his later years, to show people his own stumbling path so my Dad might have a few easy steps himself.” Vonnegut died in 2007. Recommended reading: Peter Schilling’s widely-praised novel, “The End of Baseball,” which is available for checkout through the Pasadena Public Library.
