A Lebanon man charged with aggravated child abuse appeared in court for a motions hearing Monday. Anthony Marlin Crawford, 24, appeared in Judge John Wootten’s court with attorney Andrew Love, who filed a motion to dismiss the February 2013 grand jury indictment, as well as several others. Love said “a significant portion of my client’s statement was not recorded, and that’s really the strongest evidence against my client…it’s just unfair. The case should be dismissed.” Assistant District Attorney Tom Swink told Wootten “the defendant said he didn’t want to be recorded.” Wootten denied the motion and said, “there’s no requirement that law enforcement is required to record or tape any interviews.” Wootten reserved ruling on several motions to “see how this unfolds” during the trial, which begins Tuesday afternoon. Crawford was charged with aggravated child abuse or neglect of a child under 6 years old Feb. 20, 2013. He was released on $50,000 bond the same day.
