A MESSAGE TO THE KNOWLEDGE CONVENTION ON: AMERICAN CHRISTIAN/ BIBLICAL BELIEVER CONTRAST After an extensive conversation with my sister Charron regarding an article I read in a popular Christian magazine, it became my intent to take points and highlights from both the article and some concerns both Charron and myself were voicing. In my opinion, we were doing more venting to one another than correction. The following is what I took from the magazine and our rant in contrasting Western Christianity to Biblical/ Middle Eastern Christianity. Feel free to add contrasts to this list: American Christianity promotes a culture of entertainment. The Bible promotes the pursuit of God. In American Christianity the individual interprets the Bible. In the New Testament the hermeneutical community interprets the Bible. American Christianity trains its leaders in Bible colleges. Biblical Christianity nurtures leaders through personal mentoring. American Christianity focuses on individual destiny. The Bible focuses on corporate vision and destiny. American Christianity focuses on individual prosperity. The Bible focuses on stewardship. American Christianity focuses on individual sin and the resolving of sin via deeds of Church productivity. The Bible focuses on the sin problem as a whole and the exoneration of sin through Christ alone. American Christianity focuses on self-fulfillment and happiness. The Bible focuses on glorifying God and serving humanity. American Christianity appeals to using faith to attain stability and comfort. The Bible encourages believers to risk life and limb to advance the Kingdom. American Christianity usually focuses on individual salvation. The Bible deals with individual and systemic redemption. The American apologetic focuses on human reason. The Bibles apologetic focuses on the power of God and experience.
