A McSaver meal So many of us think that we can not do charity work - TopicsExpress

A McSaver meal So many of us think that we can not do charity work because we are not rich or we ourselves have just enough money for our self or for our family. But charity work is a “work of love” and one can do it with minimal cost. It just takes a discerning and compassionate heart to give joy to a child. I have always been amazed of our CBR worker, Shera’s heart for the children. (Miriam del Rosario) This is the story she told me last night. I had to pay for my SUN account at SM Tunasan so after church I decided to go to SM and took one girl from the dumpsite with me. It has been my habit to take one or two girls once or twice a month, depending on my budget. I like to see the sparkle in their eyes as they sit with me and eat or go buying groceries in the mall. This afternoon I took M ( Name withheld) with me. As we entered SM, I took her to the ice cream counter near the mall entrance. An ice cream sundae only costs 25 pesos. Then I saw that a Mc Saver spaghetti only costs 50 pesos. I asked her, “What would you like to eat, spaghetti or ice cream?” “Spaghetti” she replied immediately. I ordered one McSaver Spaghetti meal for her. When it came, she eyed it hesitantly and slowly took her spoon to eat it. I asked her, “Do you regret ordering spaghetti instead of ice cream? “No,… it’s just that, …this is the first time I eat spaghetti and at McDonalds.” I saw the sparkle in her eyes. There was so much happiness there and I wished it was me being treated by someone else. It was a priceless moment that a millions of pesos can not buy. When I was small I wished for someone to give me a treat in Jollibee or McDonalds. I wondered how they order and pay for the food. No one did it to me so I am doing it to these girls now. I feel their happiness and I know they will never forget their first time in the mall or at McDonalds. I am sure they will do the same thing when they have a job one day. After paying for my account, as we prepared to go out of the mall I saw a line of people waiting for their turn to buy a sundae at the McDonalds counter. I had a plan. I gave 25 pesos to M and told her to take her place in the line and buy herself a sundae. When she reached the counter, she just looked at the lady who asked her what he wanted. She was so shy, she was not able to say anything. She looked at me. I told the lady to give her a sundae. As she lapped on her sundae she kept telling me, “Teacher, salamat ha. Salamat talaga.” (Thank you, thank you, really…” I felt that I was the luckiest female created by God to have this opportunity to work with these children. I suddenly became optimistic and saw my future very bright, as if God would continue smiling at me. And so, what if my love life is empty? God would surely give me someone to love me so much one day. I smiled and decided I also wanted a sundae for myself. Hehe!
