A Message of Hope By Paul Chappell Friday, Apr 4, 2014 “And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.” Matthew 28:5–7 The first Easter morning when the tomb in which Jesus was placed was found empty, there was an angelic messenger there to share the good news of the resurrection. Though Jesus told His followers that He would die and be resurrected, they did not grasp the meaning of what He told them. So the angel emphasized the significance of the empty tomb. Henry Morris said, “The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is the crowning proof of Christianity. If the resurrection did not take place, then Christianity is a false religion. If it did take place, then Christ is God and the Christian faith is absolute truth.” There are many religions in the world today. As a result we often hear it said that they are just different paths to Heaven. But there is only one true hope of reaching Heaven, and that is salvation by grace through faith in the finished work of the resurrected Saviour. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). Notice the commission given by the angels: go and tell the disciples. This is the central part of Gods plan for our lives—that we would tell others that Jesus died, was buried and rose again, offering them the hope of eternal life. There is no better or more appropriate way to celebrate the Easter season than by sharing the gospel. Today’s Renewal Principle: The message that we have been given to take to the world is the ultimate message of hope—there is a risen Saviour.
