A Press Release from the Electric Power Corporation 12 June 2013 FIAGA TESTING CAUSING POWER OUTAGES The Electric Power Corporation apologizes to the public for unexpected power outages on the islands of Upolu and Manono tai, experienced last week and last night. This was due to continuous testing of new generators at the new Fiaga Power Plant. These tests are scheduled to complete on Friday 21 June 2013. Since new Fiaga Power Plant was officially opened on the 25 April, only one generator is available for commercial operation under the care of Bluebird AHLAL/MITSUBISHI Heavy Industries contractor. This generator only operates for eight hours a day and is also affected by the ongoing testing of the Fiaga Power Plant. It is planned that all four generators at new Fiaga Power Plant will be available for commercial operation when tests are completed next Friday 21 June, and Fiaga Power Plant is handed over to EPC. “Teething problems are always expected during early stage of any new system and equipment and we would like to advise the public residing in Upolu and Manono tai, to be aware of this, as it might cause unannounced power outages this week and next, if there are any problems with the test works of generators at Fiaga” General Manager, Tologatā Tile Leῑ‟a said.
