A ReverbNation fan recently asked Jarrod a question about how to learn his arrangements. Heres Jarrods answer. Q: Hi Jarrod. I have been a pianist for 15 years now! And you are an inspiration to us! Please tell me how to stay motivated on learning to play a single difficult piece even if it seems impossible. :-) A: Sometimes pieces look and feel more difficult if you try to play the entire piece through each time. I suggest learning a segment at a time. Learn it really well so that your fingers know where they need to go and you dont actually need the sheets. That gives a sense of accomplishment to most students I teach, and eventually youll have the entire piece at your fingertips. I practice for hours each day to keep all these and other pieces mastered and to keep my technique in top shape. Also, you can work with a partner and each take different segments to learn so that together you can play the whole piece (on two pianos) sooner.
