"A STUDY IN THE GOSPEL OF JOHN" Chapter 5:25-29; "Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live, For as the Father hath life in himself: so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of Man. marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. "THE DEAD SHALL HEAR AND LIVE" In this passage of Scripture Jesus is addressing two types of dead, the first one is about those who are spiritual dead, and the second one is about those who have experienced physical death. In the gospel of Matthew, Jesus told a disciple who wanted to go and bury his father the following, "Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead (See Matthew 8:22). In this verse Jesus addresses both types of dead, let that which is dead spiritually bury that which is physically dead. The truth is, everyone is spiritually dead until they hear the gospel of Christ Jesus and receives Him as their Savior. In the epistle of Ephesians we read, "And you hath he quicken, who were dead in trespasses and sins; (See Eph. 2:1). Again in the same chapter, "but God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ (by grace are ye saved;) (See Eph. 2:4,5). These two references refer to the born-again experience. Now lets look at the second type of dead, Jesus spoke of those who were in the grave, who would hear His voice and would be raised back to life. Some unto the resurrection of life and some unto the resurrection of damnation. Those who will be resurrected unto life are those who died with their faith in Christ Jesus (See I Thess. 4:15,16; I Cor. 15:51,52). The second group will be those who will be resurrected unto damnation. This will take place at the end of the millennium reign of Christ (See Rev. 20:7-15). We all will live for eternity, the question is where will we spent eternity? Will it be with Christ Jesus or in the lake of fire with Satan and the unconverted? Remember, you must be born-again.
