A Scottsbluff speech coach Im connected with, Kara Siegfried - TopicsExpress

A Scottsbluff speech coach Im connected with, Kara Siegfried Acino, is putting out the word that an amazing young man from Gordon-Rushville (class C1) won the state poetry competition with a program about LGBTQ freedom and acceptance and was invited to perform on NET today. Yesterday his coach got a phone call from the Nebraska School Activities Association saying he has to change his program because it is offensive or he will not be invited to perform. (His program had never been criticized as offensive before--its not an explicit content issue.) His coach was told Nebraska isnt ready for this, and Change the poems. This is a new low for the NSAA. Winning state speech is an amazing accomplishment comparable to winning at the state level in any athletic event--I was a coach at Blair for four years, a judge, and a state speech competitor back in my own day. It makes me sick that we live in a society where a child can achieve so much in the face of such adversity, only to have every prejudice reconfirmed by the system hes working within. Ive got this coachs back and Ive got this students back. What the hell is going on in Lincoln? Nebraska School Activities Association
