A Sober Reminder from HMS… I’m aware that a party of boats are still seeking to club together with the intention of undertaking the Round Britain course as per the plan of the original 2014 Round Britain Powerboat & RIB Challenge. Though we wish all such parties well, I feel it my duty to remind you of some of the chief issues and concerns that caused us here at PBR Magazine to cancel the event we were organising. As you will know, the matter of refuelling the boats according to legal/H&S Licensing requirements proved to be the undoing of our intended plans and without dockside petrol being available, other than in two locations down the East Coast of the country, every other means sought to refuel the boats proved unacceptable to the authorities. Therefore, I feel it my duty to point out that if any flotilla seeks to attempt the refuel the boats without all due licences in place/agreed/according to the terms laid down by the regional authorities, those boats/teams/skippers in question stand every chance of being heavily fined or having their craft impounded. Furthermore, if local help is being brought in to assist with the carriage of fuel, ie Jerry cans and the like, these willing and helpful individuals are also being put at great risk – perhaps even more so than the teams themselves, in connection with the illegal transportation/supply of fuel. This is not a situation I’m sure that any prospective organiser or challenge team would ever want to place another individual in. Ignorance to the law is not excuse as we all know and the consequences of not abiding by the requirements of Fire Officers and the like can and will be very serious indeed. I hope this reminder is received in the spirit in which it is given .
