A THING TO PONDER UPON: At the Press Conference before the final of ISL 14,Luis Garcia and David James both demanded better infrastructure for the ISL 15.David James further added that the football infrastructure in India is nearly non-existent.There was a lack of proper training grounds, and some were quite far away from the hotels they were residing in. Arguably,BCCI hold a contribution towards ISLs success as well, through the stadiums in Mumbai and Kerala they lent out for the tournament. These things make me ponder upon the fact that developing infrastructure for football in India is not a big problem if BCCI could give a helping hand. There are excess number of cricket stadiums in India, and let us add to these the new stadiums that are being built in different regions of the country. In larger cities especially,we have more than 2 cricket stadiums. Since Im from North-East,let me explain you citing an example of our big city Guwahati. In Guwahati, currently the Sarujsarai Stadium(Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium) is being used for football. But then we also have two cricket stadiums here, one the old Nehru Cricket Stadium, and the new Barsapara Cricket Stadium. The old Nehru Stadium is getting decayed after the new stadium has been brought into use, which as over 60,000 seating capacity and one of the finest facility International stadium. So,if the old stadium is given away to be renovated as a football stadium, wouldnt that be a good idea?Wont that help football grow in this region? After all, this stadium is of no use to cricket. So why cant it be home to the North East United FC?Who loves a stadium with running tracks? The same applies to the rest of the country as well.Do think once.
