A TYPICAL DAY AT THE HACK LINE - NYC carriage horses are allowed - TopicsExpress

A TYPICAL DAY AT THE HACK LINE - NYC carriage horses are allowed by law to work 9 hours a day 7 days a week -- all between the shafts of their carriages. Some of the owners will say that their horses only work 5 hours a day, a few days a week. So if that is the case, then why dont they change the law to have all horses work only a few days a week. Again it is media manipulation and who knows if it is true. Because these unwitting beasts of burden have no freedom of movement, laden down with all their equipment and blinders, they cannot even scratch an itch. When it is not busy, they stand at the hack line bored out of their minds - either slumped down in sleep or pawing at the pavement out of frustration. Then they get yelled at or their bit pulled by their crass and uncaring driver who has been ignoring the horse while shooting the breeze with the other drivers. They are mostly untethered - and can spook at the slightest provocation. SHOULD THIS BUSINESS BE SHUT DOWN. YOU BET!
