A Tropical cyclone is likely to affect North Queensland this weekend. *Share and Tag to family and friends. A tropical low 1000kms east of Cairns is moving South West towards QLD while deepening. The low has a high chance of developing into a TC during Saturday and likely to be located very close to the NQLD Coast on Sunday. Models are very divided and uncertainty exists if the TC (Cat 1 to 2) will cross the coast or remain offshore however this is beside the point. Heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected between Cairns and St Lawrence including Townsville and Mackay. 24 hr Rainfall totals may exceed 200mm during Sunday particularly between Townsville and St Lawrence including Mackay and the Whitsunday Islands. Total rainfall accumulation totals may reach 400mm from the system over 3 to 4 days particularly around the Whitsunday Islands and Bowen. These rainfalls totals could cause flash flooding and some flood warnings for coastal rivers. Damaging winds up to 100km hr could also occur along the tropical coast depending on the proximity of the TC centre. This is a very tough system to pin point forecast exactly and we wont really know until its close enough to live track. Thats my thoughts looking at current data which could change, if you would like a more in depth forecast and coverage please head over to Oz Oz Cyclone Chasers.
