A Very Funny Story: In 2004, Bruce won 2nd prize in the World Press Cartoon competition and was flown to Portugal for the ceremony. This morning he received this e-mail from British actor Bruce MacKinnon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Mackinnon): Dear Bruce, My name is also Bruce MacKinnon and Im an actor/comedian living in London UK. I share your name but alas not quite your talent or prestige sadly. That said our lives crossed in a rather amusing way recently and felt I should share. I booked a very fancy hotel in Portugal for 1 night in order to propose to my girlfriend. We checked out the next morning but stayed in the hotel to use the facilities till our flight that evening. A bit cheeky but there we go. I was having a drink in the bar when 3 shadows loomed over me. They were the management. I thought they were about to throw our freeloading asses off the premises but instead the manager said. You are Bruce MacKinnon yes? Famous comic artist? Um yes Im a comedian. Ive done a bit of telly but wouldnt say famous And they showed me this big book in reception in a glass display case which they opened with a key and asked me to write a message on one of the big parchment pages. In the book were such alumni as Margaret Thatcher(!!), Michael Schumacher and Tiger Woods to name but a few. Bemused I wrote a message and they took our photo, and then they asked me if I could draw something too which somewhat confused me - Im a horrendous drawer. I declined saying to my girlfriend well if Margaret Thatcher hasnt drawn anything then I dont see why I should Our crappy little Fiat hire car with ice cold cokes in the drinks holders was driven to the front of the hotel amongst all the Ferraris and Aston Martins and we were given a royal send off by all the staff lining the hotel lobby. It was crazy! It was about an hour later on the road that it dawned on me the mistake. Anyway forgive me writing but thought I should share. Its an honour sharing a name with such a talented man as yourself, just dont go to The Villa Vita Parc Hotel and Spa in Portugal as they will think youre an imposter.
