A WORK meeting is planned for this Friday (1/16) night at 7pm at the Etna Library. I know that Friday evening is not the best time for many folks, but its important that we meet before the City Council meeting on Tuesday, and the library is not available Thursdays and Monday is a holiday. I would like to limit this meeting to an hour and half. This will be a WORK meeting not a rant meeting, so please come prepared to put your heads together with your neighbors to come up with solutions. The purpose of this meeting will be to: 1. Organize a list of people who are willing to contribute some of their time and effort to keep Dollar General and/or other stores like it from setting up business in Etna (and Scott Valley as a whole, but I think the focus for this group right now should be Etna). 2. Identify key individuals who are willing to take on coordinating roles and/or other important functions that require special skills for the group -- for instance website, communications, planning, legal, media relations, advertising (t-shirts, signs) and/or others. 3. Discuss next weeks City Council Meeting (will be on Tuesday night). Unfortunately, we have to submit agenda items by tomorrow (Wed), so we will put something on the agenda as a place holder. This will probably be a simple discussion topic or a request for a workshop where citizens can talk and interact with the city planner to learn more about the planning process for the Dollar General application and also learn how to properly amend the Citys Municipal Code so that future Dollar Generals (Im talking big ugly predatory corporate monsters) have to meet visual quality standards and/or other regulations that may dissuade them from wanting to build in Etna. 4. Discuss various potential actions (strategies) that the group can take to fight Dollar General, prioritize these as a group, and assign people who can find out more information and/or initiate priority actions. Thank you, I look forward to seeing you Friday! Jill Beckmann
