A Winning Bet The dealer yelled out, No more bets, and just then my number came up but my bet hadnt made it to the table yet, So once again it looks like my ship wont be coming in tonight, But someday soon Ill betcha ten to one, shell come gliding around that bend under a peaceful gleaming sun, And finally Ill be bound for home at so very long last, From that day on Ill go first class all of the way, Ill live like a king for the rest of my days, But for now Ive got my eyes fixed intently on that thick foggy haze at harbors edge, Looking out to sea day after day, somewhere out there just as sure as youre born shes steaming on a heading aimed directly at me, A big old ship that carries on board all of my hopes and my dreams, She carries a cargo that contains no hurt and pain, She carries all the love that Ill ever need to sustain, But the most precious of her cargo thats packed below deck so firm and carefully snug, She carries a lasting peace for every man, woman and child in every land, She carries the cure for every disease ever known to man, She carries only the best of everything that could ever possibly be, And best of all my ship is extremely large, big enough to carry the entire world, not just me, So hang on and hang in, the best is soon to begin, The day my ship comes in and sets every one of us free, Once were all aboard and were out to sea, the first night the drinks are all on me, And from then until forever well all sail the seven seas, Well stop at every port to unload that countrys share of peace and hope, And before you know it the mixed up world we left behind will no longer be, Finally the world will live in peace for eternity, So dealer, get that wheel a-spinning, Ive got a wager to make, I havent much time left but Ive got a sizable stake, And this old gambling dreamer just needs one more lucky break.
