A beneficial lecture for people who want to learn what real Islamic scholarship has to say on the subject of ISIS. There are a few basic Arabic terms a non-Arab speaker might need to know to navigate this talk successfully: 1) Fitnah = Sedition, strife, upheaval, confusion, hardships, etc. 2) Iblees / Shaytan = Interchangeable words for Satan. 3) Ulema = plural of Alim, i.e. scholar(s). 4) Sanad = chain of transmission tracing a statement/teaching back to the Prophet Muhammad (sallillahu aleyhi wa salaam). 5) Khawarij = An offshoot of Islam/Muslims that were prophesied by the Prophet Muhammad (s), who said that they would be known for their violence, particularly against fellow Muslims. He (s) also said they are dogs of the Hellfire, that they have nothing to do with him, nor he with them, and that they pass through Islam like an arrow passes through a target.
