A blast from the past.... On Money... Money money money. Can you feel the loaded emotions coming off the page as I write? Money. When did it become so ingrained and connected to how we feel? When did money become so emotional? Seriously, if some alien life force came to Earth and had a look around they’d see that money is our boss, and we are slaves to it. Hey, I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve never had a ‘healthy’ relationship with money. I used to fear it. Payday was awesome but so so horrible because I’d see all this money come into my bank account and instantly fear it would all disappear. So then I’d have to spend it all to stop it from disappearing, even though the act of spending was making my money disappear! Talk about a warped mindset. I know now that it was my fear of losing money and my fear that there was never enough. That whole lack mentality, that was me. I’ve since done a lot of money mindset work and it’s been hard cracking an old belief system but here’s some things I’ve learnt that helped change my perception of money and could maybe help you too. Money is money. It’s not happiness, it’s not anger, it’s not fear, it’s not love. it’s not anything except money. What we use to pay for goods and services. That’s it. Remove all that emotion. Money doesn’t define you. Of course more money can give you more options to spend on more goods and services. But that’s it. Money is not an emotion. Thank your bills. Okay, get this: bills were not invented to just be assholes coming at you for no reason. You used a service, have a current service, or bought something and are now paying it off. So, I know this is going to be hard at the start but thank the bill as you pay it. Thank it for what you received, even if it’s smothered in distain as you say it. Realise that money is infinite. That means that it will never disappear. It gets used and moves around and yes, those head honchos in the reserve bank make more but the thing is, it’s never lacking. We need to change the way we think about money. Money is abundantly everywhere. It’s not confined to the ‘rich’ people. It’s not confined to the hours you work, the job you have. Sure, those are avenues on how to make money but money is everywhere. Move away from that fear of losing money and know that money is always available. It always comes back. And you can always make more. Do you need to overhaul your money mindset?
