"A book is a text of a certain length that time is taken with. That "certain length" can range widely. So can the "time taken with" it. But the time is crucial. The author takes time to write it. The people who publish it take time to read it, to shape it with the author and to figure out how to bring it to the public. The individuals who make up that public take time to choose it over countless others, a la carte, so to speak (whereas magazine articles come together as a tasting menu) and take time out to read it. And what they seek from it—away from ordinary life, unplugged from the Internet—is the experience of a different order of time." -Paul Elie
