A brief biography of SAHEED BHAGAT SINGH : (28th Sept. 1907 _ 23rd March 1931) He was born in a Sandhu Sikh family of Sardar Kishen Singh and Vidyavati in Lyallpur distt. of Punjab (now in Lahore). Bhagat Singh was nicknamed as BHAGANWALA (the lucky one ) by his grandmother. At an early age of 13 , he began to follow Gandhis Non-cooperation movement.On withdrawal of this movement , Singh joined the Young revolutionary movement. In teenage years (1923), he ran away from home to escape early marriage and became a memeber of Naujawan Bharat Sabha.He also joined Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) latrr named as Hindustan Socialists Republican Association (HSRA). He wrote and edited Urdu and Punjabi newspapers and also worked as headmaster in National School , Khair (Aligarh) with a fake name BALWANT SINGH. In 29 May1927, he was arrested for his alleged involvement in Dusshera Bomb Case (Oct.1926, Lahore) and after 5 weeks of arrest, he released on a bail of Rs.60,000. On 30th Oct1928, while protesting non -violently against Simon Commission; LALA LAJPAT RAI was beaten with lathis at the chest.Later he succumbed to his injuries. Then Bhagat Singh , Shivaram Rajguru , Jai Gopal & Sukhdev Thapar decided to take revenge. But in case of mistaken identity ( by Jai Gopal ) Bhagat Singh shoot at J.P.Saunders.Bhagat Singh quickly left Lahore; shaved his beard &cut his hair. In 1929 , british government enacted the Defence of India Act to empower the police against Indian Revolutionaries. Then HSRA planned a bomb blast in Central Legislative Assembly where the ordinance was going to be passed. On 8th April 1929 , Batukeshwar Dutt and Bhagat Singh threw bombs in assembly and red leaflets with a spirited appeal on it it takes a loud voice to make deaf hear shouting INQUILAB ZINDABAD. Both were sentenced Transportation of Life on 12th June 1929 in this case. On 15th April 1929, police discovered Lahore Bomb Factory and other members of HSRA were arrested out of which 7 turned informants ( including Jai Gopal) helping police to connect Bhagat Singh , Rajguru & Sukhdev in murder of J.P.Saunders. In Lahore Conspiracy Case, on 1st May 1930 , Lord Irvin passed an special ordinance of shifting the case to a special tribunal of 3 judges. Also stating that the verdict of tribunal cant be challenged in higher court. Bhagat Singh was on fast for 41 days for demanding equal rights for Indian and British political prisoners. On 7th Oct 1930, tribunal sentenced him to be hanged till death. Finally, on 23rd March 1931 at 07: 33 pm ( before 11 hrs of date declared in virdict) Bhagat Singh was hanged in Lahore jail with Rajguru and Sukhdev. Rup
