A conversation - Me: What if the guy you fall in love with - TopicsExpress

A conversation - Me: What if the guy you fall in love with doesnt want to get married? Her: Then were through Me: So youre saying you can be with the perfect guy for you, madly in love, and because he doesnt want to get married you break it off? Her: Yeah Me: So the idea of marriage is more important than love to you? Her: No, thats not what I said Me: Thats exactly what you said. You just want to get married no matter what and that is more important to you than the guy youre seeing. Thats ridiculously shallow. Her: I just want a wedding Me: Again, if something material or traditional is more important to you than the guy youre in love with, you dont deserve him Her: I dont want to talk about it anymore Me: Ok bye I mean, all my friends are getting married, I should too! Plus, if I dont have a wedding, I cant brag about it on Facebook and get all sorts of unwarranted validation! Lets play the logic and statistical card some more: - Nearly 50% of all first marriages end in divorce (CDC NCHS) - 80% of divorce filings are made by women (CDC NCHS) - 97% of all alimony payers were men (US Census Bureau) - 83% of women billionaires inherited their fortune from their husband or family There is merit to marriage, especially if building a family is something that you want, but a man who actually stops to think about what could happen has more than enough justification to do so. Go ahead and ask your significant other about marriage. If you cant have a real conversation about it without someone getting upset, youre gonna have problems later on anyway. Showing your love and commitment by getting married does play a small part, but logically speaking, its not a good reason. If they want to get married, pitch the idea of getting married at the courthouse, if marriage is what the other person really wants, then it should be fine. If she is against that (and she probably will be), then obviously the most important thing to her is the wedding day itself, in which case you should run in the other direction.
