A day after the polling, groups of youth launched a crackdown against the people who had voted in Baramulla and Sopore. On the streets, people with ink mark on their fingers were identified and thrashed, and in some cases even stripped. Armed with shaving blades, the youth also looked for people with inked fingers on the vehicles coming from villages. They were brought down from the vehicles and thrashed. This alarmed the state government. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah vowed action and police rounded up scores of youth to send out a tough message to the enforcers of the poll boycott.
