A deepening Low pressure system is on the way with rain, colder air, and wet flakes. Overnight, rain will develop across the metro area. At daybreak the storm will be close enough to create super-cooling and rain will mix-with and change-to wet snow just after 6am. Winter Weather Advisories are posted for the metro area and surrounding counties from 6am Wednesday to 6pm. Snow will accumulate mainly on grassy areas and untreated roadways where there is a burst of snow. High temperatures will be near 37 and not move much during the day. Wet flakes will taper to flurries about 6pm. Accumulations will range from 1 or less for southern counties, to 1 to 2 for metro St. Louis and 2 to 3 for counties north and east. This storm system is creating some of its own cold air by lifting the moist-surface air very quickly. For this reason, the snowfall amounts are a work in progress and may need to be fine-tuned. Nonetheless, consider any snow good-timing for Santa or maybe an early Christmas gift. Have a Merry Christmas!
