A doula is a person who supports a woman in labor and postpartum. We help the woman have the labor experience she wants and/or the best labor experience possible. I think that we get a bad rep as if we ONLY support women if they choose a natural childbirth. And although I cant speak for every doula, I know that most doulas ( and in my opinion good doulas) support the woman in any childbirth she has ( Cesarean, home birth, water birth, hospital birth, birthing center birth, with or without epidural and or pain medications). One thing to remember, and one thing that we as doulas must remember, the birth experience is about the birthing mother and the partner/family involved. Not the doula.
