A downcast Arsenal fan wants answers from Wenger Posted on August 21, 2013 by Bob A letter to Arsene Wenger By MPANGA FRED Dear Mr Wenger, I hope this letter meets you well. Please consider this letter of mine as a reply to the numerous e-mails I receive from you regularly. The last one was yesterday and it began, as always with: Dear Arsenal supporter. I feel proud to receive these mails and I do feel like you are talking to me directly. So do forgive me if I feel entitled to reply if only this once. As you will notice I am very personal when referring to Arsenal football club. That’s how close I feel to the club, even though I am in a different country and a different continent. I am sure millions of fans feel the same as I do. You apologized to us for the painful loss of Saturday. The apology is accepted. But Mr. Wenger, there are a few things I do not understand. I recall that you said the other day that the Arsenal squad is short on numbers. I thought that should mean that we had the need to reinforce in a timely fashion in order to meet our extra Champions League qualifying matches and also to compete in multiple cups in the new season. You have blamed the media for wanting to feast on the misfortunes of Arsenal. They are not very good company but you have to listen to them sometimes. They say the same things Arsenal lovers say, except that first they laugh when Arsenal is mentioned these days. You have said you can’t find players to buy. This is very difficult for us too and that is why we left it up to you. What I want to say here is that our rivals are in the same difficult market but they are buying and they seem so prepared that we should be justified to be very afraid. Not that we have forgotten your counsel that buying does not give automatic success. We are just human. You have said we are in the same situation as Chelsea and Man United. But many who wish Arsenal well admit that the Chelsea squad is probably the deepest in the premier league – a point they seem to have made in their first match which they won with David Luiz smiling on the bench. Man United’s squad is the defending champion and they’ve still got Van Persie and Wayne Rooney. I am desperately trying not to despair but its so hard seeing Man United, Chelsea and Man city, just to mention the top three – they seem so prepared. I like to imagine that our club will overcome this bad start and win the league but it’s too hard. I may be rash but I have a feeling that our season is lost already. If not, I will be happy but for many fans, not winning a major trophy this season will feel like failure. A major trophy will be the champions league which you said was better than winning the world cup, the premier league and the FA cup. Mr Wenger why do you hurt yourself so much? And hurt the fans along with you. We want a trophy for you. We want you to praise the winning team spirit in that post match press room week after week and we want the fans to lift you up at the end of the season (even against your will) as the true champion you once were. I agree with you entirely that our loss was not entirely due to lack of new signings. It was bad luck and bad officiating. But you have been in this business for a long time and you know these things happen. Just look at the Emirates cup. You could see that if it was not for poor officiating, we would have won it. I thought you’d take all of these into consideration and move quickly in the transfer market and give us something to celebrate but no, we have to start the season with a heart break. I will still support Arsenal Football Club but I feel let down and it hurts so much Your Arsenal fan MPANGA FRED frm kampala uganda
