A fab new review on TripAdvisor - putting us into second position out of 104 restaurants in Tamworth :) “A gluten free gem” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August Christopher’s is a small intimate restaurant, tucked in the rear** of the Peel Hotel, at the top end of Tamworth town. (** moving to a refurbished section at the front of the Peel hotel shortly). My wife is allergic to wheat gluten and it is difficult to find restaurants/chefs you can trust but we chose to go to Christopher’s for the first time for my birthday. We had heard very good reports and when booking by telephone, were informed that gluten would not be an issue. On arrival the greeting from staff was pleasant and attentive, without being intrusive. When reminding the waitress of my wife’s gluten allergy she went into the kitchen to speak to the chef. On returning she stated that the chef would cook whatever we chose (with the obvious exception of bread or pasta) without gluten. This just goes to prove that the dishes are made from scratch. We had chicken livers cooked in Madeira (absolutely gorgeous) , king prawns in garlic butter, mains of Lamb tagine and Halibut steak, puds of sherry trifle and raspberry brulée, all of which were excellent, and without the gluten after affects. Whilst not the cheapest place in the world, (Just over £60 for two, but that did include wine/drinks) I thought it was excellent value for an outstanding meal. It will certainly be a restaurant we will return to. Visited July 2014
