A family in New Jersey is suing their school district and the superintendent, seeking to have the phrase under God removed from the Pledge of Allegiance that the students recite every morning. They claim that this phrase discriminates against atheists and is in violation of New Jerseys state constitution. But I wonder if they have ever read their states constitution. It begins with this sentence: We, the people of the State of New Jersey, grateful to Almighty God for the civil and religious liberty which He hath so long permitted us to enjoy, and looking to Him for a blessing upon our endeavors to secure and transmit the same unimpaired to succeeding generations, do ordain and establish this Constitution. So the very thing they are claiming gives them the right to be offended is itself offensive. So if they are offended by God, does their constitution even apply to them? On that note, I would hate for them to be offended, so I would gladly take all of their currency that bears the phrase In God We Trust off their hands. Again, who is more irrational, the man that believes in a God he cannot see or the man who is offended by a God he doesnt believe in?
