A farmer sowed seeds on four types of ground. Some he scattered on a path and the birds came and ate them. Then he planted some on rocky soil and it could not take hold. Some were planted among weeds, which choked the seeds. And some fell on fertile ground, where they produced thirty, sixty and a hundredfold. We all know that we reap what we sow. Greed, lust, hate, being self-centered and not forgiving others all can have their toll on our life. Conversely, love, peace, patience, kindness, generosity and self-control can render a righteous life. The problem lies within the human heart. When we allow our loving Creator to take our heart of stone and replace it with a heart of flesh, we can look beyond ourselves to see the needs of "we" instead of just "me." When we are connected to the One, true, and everlasting God, we can no longer look at the poor, downtrodden and the afflicted and not want to help. For each of us will be asked these questions: When I was hungry, did you feed me? When I was thirsty, did you give me a drink? When I needed you, did you help me? We tend to cling to the philosophy of making as much money as we can, but He says, Woe to those of us to whom much has been given and yet we do not even pay a living wage to our worker or help others who cross our paths so that we can maintain our luxurious and self-indulgent lifestyle. Jesus says the first will be last and the last will be first. And if we desire to be first, we must become a servant of all. James says that a peacemaker who sows in peace will raise a harvest of righteousness. Just writing these words makes me reexamine myself.
