A featured article on ESF and our CEO Belinda Greer was published in the latest edition of The Unique Asia Schools Guide 2014-15. The story mentioned that ESF operates 21 schools and kindergartens providing quality education which is characterised by dedicated staff and a commitment to providing an excellent education through the medium of English. The writer also wrote that ESF will see a phase-out of government subvention and has launched the Non-refundable Capital Levy (NCL), replacing the previously-launched Refundable Capital Levy (RCL), to cope with the capital requirements for future projects. “The Board is sensitive to the fact that introduction of the NCL will impose an additional cost to parents of new students entering ESF schools from August 2015 onwards but has a responsibility to put in place a financial strategy which can safeguard ESF’s sustainability in capital terms and the long term qualify of education for future students,” Carlson Tong, Chairman of ESF. ESF has also revamped its admissions policy in 2013. The policy has been in place since August 2013 which children of corporate nomination rights nominees will receive priority for an admission interview. In the interview with Belinda, titled “Meet the Chief Executive Officer of ESF”, Belinda introduced her professional background in the field of education and that she has been impressed by the rich and wide range of learning experiences across ESF over the last months since she joined. When it comes to challenges that ESF will face as the government prepares to remove its subsidy from 2016, Belinda said ESF needed a sound financial strategy which will include income generation streams and greater efficiencies in the system. For exciting plans ahead for ESF schools, she said that putting professional inquiry at the heart of professional learning and classroom practice is a priority. There are ongoing developments in ICT. Plans for the rebuild of Island School are well-advanced and a new ESF kindergarten will open in Tung Chung in the school year of 2015-16.
