A few Easter musings, as my cat gently snores at my feet. *God doesnt cause harm, humans do. If someone receives a mailer from Doctors Without Borders, and throws it away because they want shoes, or coffee, or a manicure, thats not God, thats a choice. If someone knows their neighbor is unemployed and hungry, and walks by their house every single day without offering to help, thats a choice. If people vote for sociopaths over and over again, thats a choice. *People who believe in God (whatever name you give him/her) are not mentally ill. People who use God as an excuse to hurt, wage war, kill others, encourage violence, and support oppression may be. As someone who still has scars, both emotional and physical, from mental illness, I know the difference. *If youre an atheist, and you dont treat me like crap, I will offer you the same courtesy. I know atheists who are wonderful, caring, gracious people, like my son. But like any large group (as was perfectly pointed out earlier by Michael P Kemp), there are rotten apples both in atheism and Christianity. Its dangerous and disingenuous to lump everyone together. *Yes, I believe in God. I believe in Jesus, and I believe with all my heart that my life has been enriched by faith. I try not to hurt people, I try to do good things, and be a good person. This doesnt mean I dont get angry, or that insults and threats dont upset me. Sometimes, I fail, and thats okay. Everyone does at some point. Even Jesus made mistakes (see the woman at Canaan). Happy Easter, Happy Sunday, hug a tree.
