A few centuries not too long ago, some people of all cultures and religion, who never travelled beyond their own small world said the world was flat, and imposed their beliefs on the ignorant majority, who then had to also believe in a flat earth. The few scientists and thinkers who contradicted that theory of error in those days were regarded as heretics and burnt at the stake. A few centuries later, some daring scientists, explorers and non-conformist decided it was better to prove the flat earth theory wrong and succeeded in doing just that. The rest, as they say, is history. Now we know better. Some of us in Nigeria are behaving and ruling their people because they believe the ruled and the followers y will continue to wallow in ignorance and as if the world ends, or rather, the lives and well-being of the people they rule, begins and ends with them. They have forgotten they will only be in power for a very short time. They have looked at history, if at all, and thought, if some people had been getting away with all kinds of impunity, mediocrity, callousness, corruption and other evils since the days of Nigerian independence, they could also get away with it too. After all, their predecessors, mostly their own godfathers and mentors, are still swaggering with arrogance and their ill-gotten wealth and power on the streets of Nigeria today. No! We, the people now know they will not, but they know not that they will not. They have forgotten that as Nigeria grows older, so do the people become wiser and more aware of what has been, and is still going on around them in their little world of poverty and oppression. We are are waiting for such people who either do not know history or forget history and continue to perpetrate evil on their people. A flat earth has become a spherical earth. It will be our turn to burn people at the stake.
