A few days ago, I was introduced to a movie called ‘Now You See Me’…not one of my favorites, but I felt it needed a review none-the-less. The film is the story of how 4 street entertainers/illusionists/mentalists were called to one location by a mysterious financier to mold their talents in the direction of showbiz stardom. Amidst their new found financial freedom, they have also become masters of showmanship and thievery. One such grand theft, if you will was the emptying of a French bank while in Vegas performing their show. A grumbling cop becomes obsessed with capturing these ‘4 horsemen’ and putting them away. The film is a great premise and great cast, however in my opinion not enough was explained to the point of being believable. And that’s why we wanna see things like this, right?! Yes, I know it could never happen, but I also know E.T. could never happen either, but I cried in the theater too, just like all of you!! Suspension of disbelief is a wonderful character to have…along side this notable ensemble. Anyhow, I was a little disappointed, but it was fun and entertaining to a point. I think this film could have also been great if it had taken place during medieval times as well, perhaps a gaggle of sorcerers and jokers getting back at an evil King or something. I dunno. Anyway, there were 3 things I really liked about this film. 1 – Characters were great...funny and smart. 2 – Soundtrack by Brian Tyler was grand and probably more so than the film itself. (clip below) 3 – Isla Fisher’s legs…in just about every scene… and a lot in a miniskirt. =) 2 and a half fingers out of 5 for this imaginative, yet lacking antihero action movie.
