A few days into our Kazakhstan trip, Rob Raker and I decided to acclimatize by heading up to Chimbulak, the local ski resort above Almaty, and found some instant entertainment. We immediately met Roman, who eagerly talked us into trying out his space flight simulator. Like being inside a gyroscope, I was slightly shaken up and nauseous afterwards, especially after Rob got behind the controls and gleefully sped me up. After that we got to do something unheard of in the U.S. – hold a 15 lb. Golden Eagle. So much for wild and free, but a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the both of us.
