A few weeks ago, I went to the new and improved McEuen for the first time. I am not a complainer, and I dont mean to trample on all the vision and hard work that went into it, but here is my view: going there was kind of depressing. The parking was strange, and the brick reminded me of a Seattle 70s parking garage. In fact, the whole thing seemed out of place in CDA. The bright colors of the monstrous jungle gym where I could not keep my eyes on my kids were odd and the thing itself was a little much. The hills seemed to block the view of the lake unless you were standing at just the right spot. It felt gloomy, and so very unlike the Americana you used to feel when going down there. The building smack dab in the middle seemed very gigantic and out of place. Friends complained they missed the old parking on the W. side. I am sorry to those who really like it. I dont mean to rain on your parade. I guess the splash pad is nice, but its so close to the beach...on the flip side the dog park was the best thing..looked really fun for dogs. I guess in my mind I just dont get how this is better not to mention all the money that went into it for what I would call out of context and mediocre results imho (and who am I?:) so take or leave what I say). Thank you for the hard work to all the whomevers who did it all, I guess I am just a different kind of artist than you. Maybe I will get used to it, but I doubt it since I am not there enough to do so.
