A few years ago I was camping near the Mara River, Northern Serengeti. It was lunch time and a THUD was heard away from the camp. Bins revealed that two Martial eagles had hit the ground. Not wanting to interfere/influence we slowly drove to within 50 mts and watched as one eagle played possum (we hoped) . The other dominant one hung on. After no movement by the still bird we feared the worst. This went on for a full 10 minutes. Another car came and the the standing bird must have loosened its grip slightly. The lower leapt into action seemingly airborne in an instant. It flew a few feet above our car and away.
