A fitting tribute to James Erb, who passed away Tuesday. Silliest Opa to his grandchildren, he was raised among the songs of Mennonites and Methodists in Colorado, became a choirboy in an Episcopal cathedral, and then taught for 39 years in our music department before becoming professor emeritus in 1993. Among his many gifts to us was this, his transcendent arrangement of Shenandoah, sung here by a choir of UR students in Cannon Memorial Chapel on a spring afternoon in 1971.
