A former student of mine, Sara Raven, sent me this new item from Minneapolis. Columbus Day is no more in the city of Minneapolis. The city council unanimously passed a resolution Friday that now recognizes the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples Day. The move symbolically switches the focus from Christopher Columbus to the recognition of the high price Native Americans paid when Europeans arrived to the New World. kstp.mn/7c53a A comment on the site attributes this new city ordinance to communism. I guess I failed to realize that communists were any less good at lying about their history than democratic capitalists! Chalk this one up to Indigenous Peoples resistance, trying to recover our own history! Well done Minneapolis Indian activists!
