A friend just posted something about getting rid of one item a day. This reminded me of Pasadena Ordinance No. 5512 (as printed in the Pasadena Star News, 8 May 1981): AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PASADENA RELATING TO THE ADOPTION AND REPEAL OF CITY ORDINANCES WHEREAS. Between May 7, 1973, and May 4 1981, 400 ordinances have been adopted and 241 have been repealed by the Board of Directors of the City of Pasadena, thereby adding 159 new and additional regulations; and WHEREAS. in one heroic effort the Board of Directors adopted in 1974 Ordinance No. 5165 repealing 203 ordinances at one time; and WHEREAS. the City of Pasadena and its bureaucracy will die from the weight of its own excessiveness in law and regulation unless curative measures are instituted immediately: NOW, THEREFORE, the People of the City of Pasadena ordain as follows: SECTION 1. No ordinance of the City of Pasadena shall take effect unless the ordinance repeals two or more ordinances of the City of Pasadena. SECTION 2. This ordinance shall remain in effect until May 4, 2081, or until 100 or less ordinances remain in effect, whichever comes first. Signed and approved this 4th day of May, 1981.
