A friend of mine a few months ago looked at me in shock when I answered his question: You havent seen There Will Be Blood?? After he sat me down tonight and showed me the film, I can now change my answer to Yes I have-and it is a damn fantastic film. WOW was this good. Daniel Plainview is such an interesting monster of a character and his dynamics with his son, Eli, and his brother was so captivating and menacing that it really held me on the edge of my seat. Being a businessman, he reminded me of Gordon Gekko from Wall Street, both characters being seemingly kind, but really intended to screw everyone they know over. But Plainview was a true monster with nothing to gain, unlike Gekko whos charm is he loves life and wants to gain everything from it, no matter how tough the cost. Daniel Day-Lewis was unbelievably brilliant. He is a truly up there with Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro and other actors who we just have to accept as the best actors we have ever had. I have never seen any other Paul Thomas Anderson films, so I am open to recommendations, but as for this one-this was a damn great film......a damn great film.
