A friend of mine lost her sister yesterday ... her sisters boyfriend murdered her. I did not know her sister nor her killer but it appears that violence was an ongoing part of their relationship. We are once again reminded that no one ... NO ONE ... should ever stay in a relationship where their partner has raised a hand and hit them in anger or as a means of control. NEVER should anyone stay. Men do not hit women ... period end of story ... NEVER EVER ... My younger women friends ... you do not owe any man anything. Your body is your body and when you say no any man with any modicum of intelligence knows that your NO means NO (I realize that recently talk radio has tried to teach men that some women mean yes when they say no but the truth is a NO means NO!). Your body is your body and no one has the right to touch it, use it or abuse it. You control your body no man whether he is a boyfriend or spouse or just a first date is allowed to do what he wants ... YOUR BODY ... YOU ARE IN CONTROL and if a man ignores your wishes then let the authorities know because he is someone who could do greater harm to someone else. There is no Scriptural context to stay with a man who chooses to brutalize you although all too many abusers who claim to live a life of faith tell their abused wife that God gives them that power to hit and discipline. Please hear me ... NO ONE should ever stay in a relationship where violence occurs even one time. One time will create excuses that will lead to a second and a third time. Soon the victim will start to believe it is her fault that he enjoys hitting her. I have seen too many close friends stay ... and get hit and beat up ... and stay ... and get bruised and battered ... and stay doing irreparable harm to the psyche of their children and if there are boys in the family staying is creating the next generation of abusers. Please if you have been hit, quietly go out the door and find your nearest shelter. Never ever allow yourself to be struck again because in Gods kingdom you are worth so much more and honestly most men would never think of hitting you if they were in a relationship with you.
