A friend of mine who works for the Pernicious Anaemia Society is writing a book, and would like t know mental health professionals view on these three questions; 1. In general, how aware are Psychiatrists and Psychiatric Nurses that low B12 can and does cause Psychosis? 2. Do you think it would be a worthwhile exercise to carry out a mass screening of all patients undergoing psychiatric treatment to assess their B12 status? 3. Are Psychiatric nurses and other professionals working within the field of mental health aware of the problems with the current B12 assay that means as many as 35% of patients who have had their B12 tested are being told their levels are fine whereas they are not? I must admit that my knowledge level on this would be very low.
