A friend wrote this October 4, 2001, a few weeks after 9/11 How could we go out and commit road rage if we asked the Lord to make us an instrument of HIS peace? How could we hate our neighbors because of their skin color or their religious belief if everyday we prayed not so much to be understood but rather that we should understand. How could we abuse or mistreat any other living creature if we asked not som much to be loved as to love? We face an uncertain future, how many other ways could the daily recitation of this beautiful prayer console us, change us, challeng us? Prayer of St. Francis. Lord make me an instrutment of your peace, Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon, Where there is despair, hope, Where there is darkness, light And where there is sadness, joy. O. Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled, as to console, To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love, For it is in giving that we receive, It is in pardoning that we are pardoned And it is in dying that we Are born to eternal life.
