A fun spring time fine motor activity is to pick flowers with your child. Find a grassy area with dandelions or other widespread flowers that your child can pick. Babies can to this to! Older children can work on their pincer grasp and strength to pick the flowers, while babies will use a whole-hand grasp. Once your child has picked the flower, they can pick individual pedals off, or with dandelions, blow the seeds. If you are in an area with different types of flowers or plants, they can sort them and you can talk about how they are the same or different (even things that are not flowers, such as grass or other weeds that may be growing). Happy picking! ~Sarah Eller, occupational therapist
