A grandchild fills a place in your heart that you never knew was empty. ~Author Unknown~ And when that place that was filled, which you didnt know was empty is gone, there remains a gaping hole that cannot be refilled! I keep doing all the things that I have come to know that help: Reading a daily grief meditation Searching for quotes that help to describe what I am feeling Reading scripture Praying Writing about my feelings Another friend shared with me about her son who had committed suicide, and I am so sorry that she had to experience it; but that is what helps me the most! To actually hear from someone who can, not just sympathize, but empathize...to know that another person knows what I am feeling. I have a book, Healing a Grandparents Grieving Heart, but suicide is not addressed. Ive read about the pain of having to watch your child grieve after the death of a child...but none about the grief of a child who took their life. As I search for consolation by reading, I remember a quote by C.S. Lewis, We read to know we are not alone. And by reading, we find words that validate our pain. One thing I have learned: some days are worse than others, but I have to go through those days...there is no way to go around them!
