A great reminder from Eric Jenkins--Are you one of those what have you done for me lately type of people? I know some (not all) who are. I dont believe they intend to be that way, it is just the way they come across. They really appreciate you and who you are for the moment because you are providing some form of service or benefit to them, but give them a week and they wont give you the time of day. Why? Because your benefit is now expired and there is no reason to waste time on you. There is a lot unsettling about this. We dont like it. Yet that is what we tend to do with God. That may sound harsh, but often times, we talk to God simply because we need something. Yet as soon as the crisis or the need goes away, we become the independent person all over again. We go to God wanting this or wanting that, but never taking the time to get to know Him. Our prayers are filled with our wish lists rather than just talking with Him and getting to know Him. This is really nothing new. Our Lord has seen it before, such as when the people were searching for Him just recently after the miracle of the fishes and loaves. They got into the boats and went to Capernaum, hoping to get another meal. Jesus saw right through that motive back then. He sees through it now. Now, Im not saying that we are purposefully being malicious. Im not even saying that it is wrong to want things and ask for them. All I am saying that it is more important to know who God is rather than getting our wish list fulfilled. Dear Lord, I want to stop and just talk with you, listen to you and hear all that you have to say. I want to open up your Word and hear with my soul all that you are saying. I want to know you and seek you first. Peace and Amen
